DPF’s Impact in the Park

The Cross Timbers Park project brought together a partnership of homeowners, the City of Denton Parks & Recreation Department, private donors, Denton ISD, Texas Master Naturalists, and the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center to preserve a remnant of the Eastern Cross Timbers ecosystem in a rapidly developing part of Denton.

The park opened in 2002 and features nature trails and a teaching gazebo for environmental education activities. The park provides a safe place for old-growth trees and indigenous species of the rapidly vanishing Cross Timbers & Prairies ecosystem—the primary ecological region of North Texas and Denton County.
